Gulfport, MS 39501 866/Gulfport. Grand Casino Gulfport is a complete resort destination located in the Port of Gulfport, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. It features two hotel towers, the Lazy River Tropical Pool, full-service spa and salon, 8 restaurants, a sports bar, Kids Quest, Grand Arcade, shops and entertainment and event. We went to Biloxi for sun fun and casinos. We saw online that the casino offer $15 free play and $15 food credit for first time visitors. These were wonderful comps and we used the food comp to get the lunch buffet which was wonderful. History[edit]
After Katrina: Grand Casino Biloxi barge washed inland
Prior to 2005 this casino was a Grand Casinos and Caesars Entertainment property. After the ownership change to Harrah's Entertainment it was announced that this casino was being converted to the Horseshoe brand. But these plans were put on hold when Biloxi and the Gulf Coast were hit by Hurricane Katrina. The storm destroyed the barge on which the casino floor was located; the storm surge swept the barge from the shoreline all the way across Beach Boulevard, nearly 500 feet (150 m) inward. On May 21, 2006, demolition crews imploded the beach-side hotel structure, leaving Harrah's with a clean slate for rebuilding.
After Katrina, the company announced that they will be re-opening the facility during Summer 2006, with a 35,000 sq ft (3,300 m2) casino, a spa, and other amenities, but the facilities south of Highway 90 would take several years to complete. On August 17, 2006, the first phase of the rebuilding opened with a 495-room hotel and a new land-based casino.
The long-term plan for this property had been to construct what Harrah's (now renamed back to Caesars) called 'a destination resort.' Part of the expansion plans revolved around Caesars' purchase of the 18 acres (73,000 m2) that comprised the neighboring Casino Magic property. In May 2007, Harrah's announced the Margaritaville Casino and Resort would be built on the site.[2]

However, construction of that expansion ceased in 2008 due to economic concerns, and in January 2011, Caesars officials announced the termination of the agreement with Jimmy Buffett and his Margaritaville brand. A new Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant, not affiliated with Caesars Entertainment, was to be constructed at a different location in Biloxi.[3]
Most everyone eats at the same restaurants (Lucky's or Via Vai) or spends lazy mornings getting bowl-size lattes and breakfast at Jeannine's. Sadly, the San Ysidro Ranch was decimated by the mudslides and remains closed. Santa barbara beach club. Inland is the San Ysidro Ranch, where Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier were married and where John and Jacqueline Kennedy honeymooned. Local celebrities like Oprah, Ellen, Rob Lowe and Brad Paisley all chipped in with fundraising and recovery efforts. The best thing about Montecito is its intimate, unfussy village vibe. In 1928 Charlie Chaplin built the Montecito Inn there (which now has a permanent memorial honoring the 23 lives lost in the mudslides).
In October 2017, ownership of the property was transferred to Vici Properties as part of a corporate spin-off, and it was leased back to Caesars Entertainment.[4][5]

Grand Casino Gulfport was a riverboat casino and hotel in Gulfport, Mississippi, United States. It was owned and operated by Harrah's Entertainment. Prior to its destruction by Hurricane Katrina, the casino had two hotels with a total of 1,000 rooms, and a 90,000-square-foot (8,400 m2) casino.
History[edit]
The property was opened by Grand Casinos in May 1993.[1] An expansion was completed in 1999, adding 594 hotel rooms and a spa and salon.[2]
During 2005, Grand Casino Gulfport was a Caesars Entertainment property. After the ownership changed to Harrah's Entertainment, the company announced that this casino would be converted to the Harrah's brand. But before that could take place, the property was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. While most of the hotel facility remained intact, the casino barge was washed ashore during the hurricane and partially blocked Beach Boulevard (U.S. Highway 90), the beach front's main roadway. In an effort to clear the road, the casino was imploded on September 21, 2005.
In December 2005, Harrah's announced that the site and any remaining assets were being sold to Gulfside Casino Partnership, the owners of the adjacent Copa Casino, the Grand's neighboring competitor whose own casino barge was swept into the Grand's parking lot by Katrina. The Copa Casino Gulfport, which had been located in a berth at the Mississippi State Docks, purchased the Grand site for its own post-Katrina expansion plans. The Skybridge and/or Catwalk redirects to a parking lot and you can go to the hotel. The casino is now called the Island View Casino.
